Press Conference by Chairman Tegeltija, Commissioner Varhelyi and Minister Schallenberg upon Vaccines Handover

Chairman Tegeltija pointed out that BIH got, through EU mechanism, more than 10,000 doses of “Pfizer” vaccines. The Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH underlined that the EU secured EUR 13.7 million for the vaccines procurement, of which sum BIH will get 213,000 doses.
Chairman Tegeltija said he expects more considerable quantities of vaccines to arrive to BIH this May and June.
“It remains on us to continue working with the EU on procurement of new vaccines. We expect the Entities to provide, through their direct procurement, additional quantities of vaccines, and provided that vaccines delivery under COVAX system goes as planned for May and June, BIH should secure a stable vaccination system of all its citizens” ,Chairman Tegletija said.
“Through securing the assistance, the EU helped boost the vaccination process in BIH. It concerns primarily health workers who are at the forefront of struggle against corona virus”, Commissioner Varhelyi stressed.
He added that this is a step out from pandemics, it is an important day and message that the EU cares for the region and BIH alike, as it was proving from the beginning of the pandemics.
Minister Schallenberg said that in the context of a joint struggle against the pandemics, today is a good day for both BIH and the EU.
“The presence of Mr Varhelyi and myself indicates that we are here and that we are not going to give up”, Schallenberg added.
Chairman Tegletija held a meeting with Commissioner Varhelyi at the Sarajevo Airport, before the handover of vaccines. (end)
