Memorandum Signed for Promotion of Refugees-Related Law and Lawyers Education

The Ministry of Security of BIH, Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees, University in Sarajevo School of Law, University of East Sarajevo School of Law, “Your Rights BIH” Association, and UNHCR Office in BIH signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the aim of promotion of rights of refugees and development of required theoretic and practical capacities of future lawyers in the area of rights of refugees.

The Memorandum, concluded for a term until 2025, defines cooperation on organisation and running of a clinic for refugee law, support to law schools’ libraries, and cooperation on exchange of information on policies and practices in refugees’ law and BIH asylum system.

The Clinic for Refugees’ Law will enable students to acquire both theoretic and practical knowledge in refugees’ law, with a possibility of gaining practical experiences and learning of the newest developments in international legal framework for protection of refugees and of the EU acquis.

Students of the Clinic will have access to documents where international and European standards of refugees’ rights were elaborated, including relevant legislation on international protection in BIH. Students will, thus, be enabled to learn on a legal framework of protection of refugees in BIH, and to get practical experiences from learning directly from competent civil society partners by way of visiting an accommodation centre for asylum seekers. Students will also gain practical knowledge in the Ministry of Security of BIH, Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of BIH, “Your Rights BIH” Association and UNHCR Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This activity will be realised through financial support from the European Union within “Regional EU support to vulnerable migrations management in the Westen Balkans. (end)
