Krišto at COP28 in Dubai: „Together only, as global community, we may achieve significant changes and preserve our planet for generations to come“

Chairwoman Krišto said at the beginning of her address that the Conference on Climate Change takes place in a critical moment in the history of mankind, since climate change is not limited to some parts of the world only, but are rather a global threat. She stressed that Bosnia and Herzegovina shares devotion to transfer to sustainable future, and that due to seriousness of the current state of affairs and challengers head of all of us, it is ready to be a part in a global fight for preservation of our planet. She emphasised decisiveness of our country in making change happen to drive us to sustainable tomorrow, adding that our efforts in fight against climate change are unreserved and permeating all parts of our society.
„We are devoted to transfer to renewable sources of energy, for the aim of decreasing hothouse gas emissions and its effects to environment. Transfer to renewable sources of energy is not just an imperative, but unique chance for building more sustainable, economically stable and ecologically aware BIH society““, Chairwoman Krišto said.
She underlined particularly that through investments to renewable energy technology and incitement to innovations, Bosnia and Herzegovina wants to partner global efforts in reduction of hothouse gas emissions and mitigation of climate change. She stressed unreserved support to all global initiatives and efforts towards sustainability and protection of natural environment, including support and following of guidelines and recommendations stemming from United Nations initiatives, such Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
„We organise and implement the Western Balkan Green Agenda concept, as a strategy for harmonisation of the Western Balkan countries’ environmental policies with the European Green Plan and transfer to sustainable economy, precisely implementation of tis 5 pillars: decarbonisation; circular economy, decrease of environment pollution; sustainable rural areas; and protection and renewal of biodiversity and eco-systems by implementation of the Sofia Declaration Action Plan-contained measures“, Chairwoman Krišo said.
She added that needed are cooperation, exchange of knowledge and technology, in addition to international support to achieve the Green Agenda aims. She reiterated commitment of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a more active participation in global efforts for preservation of climate through cooperation with other states and sharing of positive experiences and resources for achievement of the common aim.
„Bosnia and Herzegovina joins, with a full responsibility, the Emirate Declaration on resilient food systems, sustainable agriculture and climate actions, which represent an important step towards global partnership, key for facing challenges brought by climate change. As a responsible member of the international community, we do recognise urgency of a need for joint action to preserve our planet. Joining the Emirate Declaration, we send a strong message of solidarity and shared responsibility for preservation of our planet. We urge other countries to follow us and join this global effort in order to make more sustainable, resilient and prosperous society for all“, the Chairwoman said.
Chairwoman Krišto confirmed devotion, readiness and ambition of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for an active cooperation in combating climate change.
