Chairwoman Krišto with GAC Members Talks on BIH Activities on European Road
02/20/2024
Krišto thanked for the call, held immediately before the EU General Affairs Council meeting, emphasising a notable effort and progress made by our country on the European road. She said the progress achieved came as a result of consensus reached on all relevant issues, as a principle of work and decision-making with the Council of Ministers of BIH. She stressed that a progress made in the course of 2023 continued in 2024 by an accelerated dynamic. She underlined that the Council of Ministers achieved significant breakthroughs on fulfilment of 8+1 key priorities. In such ambience, she stressed, the harmonisation of our country with the EU foreign and security policy is 100% for the first time.
As to legislative reform, the Chairwoman noted that a special importance must be paid to amendments and supplements to the Election Law, and overall election legislation reform, as well, which covers implementation of the BIH Constitutional Court awards, as well as implementation of the European Court for Human Rights awards, for which we are all committed, as well as to other corrections relating to democracy and transparency of the Election Law. She stressed that key to this and other issue-solving undertakings must come as a result of internal dialogue and agreements, since only solutions by BIH Institutions may secure lasting security and stability, and improve relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“While we continue our road to membership in the European Union, we must bear on mind that reforms are key to our own progress and development. They are not just an obligation towards the EU, but rather moral and practical need for development of better future for all of us in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, I am confident that the EU (European Council) will, having regard of all of our results and efforts invested and subsequent progress achieved, open negotiations this March, Chairwoman Krišto said.
At the end of the meeting, Chairwoman Krišto stated that our full dedication to real reforms and readiness to face challenges ahead speak clearly of both commitment to the European integrations and ambition of BIH to become a full member of the European family.
“The opening of the negotiations would not only come as a recognition of efforts taken to-date, but as an incentive for further steps towards achieving our common aims. I am convinced that we will, together with you, continue developing stable and prosperous European Bosnia and Herzegovina. In that sense, we believe that the European Union, as our partner, will continue inciting and supporting. The key for success and foundation of sustainability ley with solutions stemming from dialogue and decisions taken by institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the end, I will reiterate that only together we can achieve the aims we set on the road towards the European Union”, Chairwoman Krišto stressed at the end of the meeting.
