Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Borjana Krišto talked in Sarajevo with members of the European Union Working Party on the Western Balkans (COWEB). 

Chairwoman Krišto said the focus of work of the Council of Ministers of BIH is the fulfilment of 14 key priorities from the European Commission Opinion, after Bosnia and Herzegovina got the candidate status last December. She stressed the importance of political consensus within BIH on strategic foreign policy aim, which is a full membership in the European Union. Assessing that the European road requests a lot of patience, stubbornness, continuous dialogue and confidence building among representatives of constitutive people, Krišto expressed her pleasure for the Council of Ministers of BIH works under an affirmative atmosphere, takes decisions unanimously in its full capacity for the European road.

She added that the Council of Ministers of BIH defined a number of laws, by mid-May this year, among which there are amendments and supplements to the Law on High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, free access to information at BIH Institutions level, Law on Foreign Affairs, and amendments and supplements to the Law on Service in the Armed Forces of BIH. Krišto said this a Budget for the current year was adopted, in addition to 2023-2025 Economic Reforms Programme, and after the Council of Ministers adopted a relevant rulebook, a Cooperation Treaty with EUFOR was signed and many activities launched for accession to EUROJUST, in order to improve Bosnia and Herzegovina cooperation with the European Union in critically important matters and to strengthen anti-corruption activities.

She added that at the very start of her term, a Strategy for Fight against Organised Crime in Bosnia and Herzegovina was adopted, and in the area of reaching climate neutrality, 2020-2030 Adaptation to Climate Change and Low Emission Development Strategy was adopted.

Speaking of activities in time ahead, Chairwoman Krišto said Bosnia and Herzegovina remains firmly dedicated to peace promotion, stability and prosperity of the region and to strengthening of regional cooperation.

She emphasised dedication to projects agreed-to within the Berlin Process, and pointed at the importance of better transport and economic linking of the region. She noted a need for further implementation of structural reforms in BIH, with a limited constitutional reform and thorough amendment of the Election Law, which should secure equality of all three constitutive people and other citizens, as a precondition for democratisation of society and building of confidence.

She stressed that the aim is to restore a shaken credibility of our country before European partners and prove that BIH is a reliable partner to the European Union.

The COWEB diplomats commended the progress BIH has made, and expressed their support to the European road, adding that the European integrations dynamics depends of readiness of Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities to fulfil key priorities. (end)
