Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Borjana Krišto sent a letter to President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsoli, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borell, and EC Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi concerning Election Law, relevant to the European road of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Chairwoman Krišto reminded at recent opening of negotiations and said that all in Bosnia and Herzegovina are clear that an overall election reform is of especial relevance for Bosnia and Herzegovina. She stressed that Bosnia and Herzegovina as a future member-country of the European Union needs an election law which is not a result of imposition or overvote.

In line with that, the Chairwoman reminded that undertaking on agreeing Amendments and Supplements to the Election Law is on-going with a special care. The responsible Ministry of Justice sent a Pre-Draft Law to a procedure, and it is now in a public debate in which all in BIh may provide their comments and amendments.

She said that imposition of a thorough international supervision containing 114 corrections is not correspondent the European future of BIH either, and it is most detrimental to independence and sovereignty Bosnia and Herzegovina, having regard that it is about a piece of legislation a democratic system is founded on and which is the second most important legal act in BIH after the Constitution.

“I strongly believe the imposition of the Decision on Amendments and Supplements to the Election Law in BIH, for me, as the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BIH, represents an unexpected challenge to which we should, together with you,  respond in a way neither harming our EU road nor work of the BIH Institutions, since the BIH Institutions are merely those to take responsibility for its decision-taking”, Krišto said in her letter to the EU high officials.

At the end of the letter, the Chairwoman pointed at a need for continued cooperation and strengthened confidence and respect among us in BIH, through supporting solutions as result  of work of BIH Institutions. She said she believes that only in that way it is possible to make a breakthrough necessary for all of us in BIH and for our European road. (end)
