Chairwoman Krišto in Davos: Expectation of Soon Opening of Negotiations with EU

Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Borjana Krišto stressed, in her address to the 54th World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos and during a special session “Diplomatic Dialogue on Western Balkans”, that Bosnia and Herzegovina expects soon opening of negotiations on its membership in the European Union. 

Chairwoman Krišto said that these are days of the first anniversary the incumbent Council of Ministers took office, stressing that a significant breakthrough was made on the European road of Bosnia and Herzegovina over last year. She said that over that time span, the Council of Ministers held 57 sessions and adopted more than 1,400 different documents, of which 13 proposal laws, to the end of meeting 8+1 requirements from recommendations, i.e. 14 key priorities from the European Commission Opinion. She emphasised that Bosnia and Herzegovina had, last year, for the first time in tis history, a full harmonisation with the EU foreign and security policy.

Chairwoman Krišto said she is personally disappointed for such extraordinary effort and progress of BIH Institutions were not recognised last December by opening of the EU membership negotiations, which would make Bosnia and Herzegovina additionally connected to the EU. She said that this missed chance left a notable trace to work of parties’ coalition within Bosnia and Herzegovina at all levels of authority, thus making the Council of Ministers operations more difficult. She expressed her confidence that the work would continue in same restless dynamics, as we are aware that reforms ahead are needed to all of us in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

She added that the up-coming visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, accompanied by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Netherlands Mark Rutte, represents an affirmative breakthrough in tightening European cooperation and support to our European striving. In that regard, Chairwoman Krišto expressed her expectations for a soon opening of the negotiations and progressing of our country.

At the end of her address, Chairwoman Krišto said she believes personally that future of BIH and the region depends on keeping dialogue, boosting cooperation and sustainable solution- finding. She underlined that she would continue building bridges between different political entities, supporting firmly democratic processes and promoting transparency in political action. She pointed out that the key to success of Bosnia and Herzegovina leis in a continuous cooperation of all constitutive people and their legitimate representatives, including relevant political stakeholders. (end)
