Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Zoran Tegeltija talked today in Sarajevo with Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in BIH Haldun Koç. 

The meeting discussed the current economic developments caused by Corona virus pandemics, as well as possibilities for improvement of cooperation between the two countries in the area of mutual interest.

Chairman Tegeltija emphasised that in the context of rehabilitation from aftermath of the pandemics, it is necessary to prevent humanitarian and health crisis and enable economic activities and gradual economic recovery.

On this occasion, Chairman Tegeltija briefed Ambassador Koç of development of a new investment cycle and disburdening of economy in 2021-2022 period of time, in addition to the domestic production protection programme, underlining that the opening of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Turkey in Banja Luka is a very important step towards further improvement of cooperation and creation of new investment opportunities.

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers underlined the importance of an export quota increase for red meat from BIH to the Republic of Turkey, specifying an expectation for additional 2,000 tonnes quota  increase for year 2020.

Chairman Tegeltija said BIH may offer high quality products in an expanded volume, saying that this way economic relations would be considerably improved in both counties. He is hopeful that a mutually beneficial new free trade agreement would additionally improve the economic relations, underlining that relevant procedures need to be completed for the agreement to take effect.

The meeting concluded that the relations between BIH and Turkey are good, without outstanding issues, and added that there is place for further improvement of cooperation, primarily in the areas of agriculture, transport and infrastructure.
