Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BIH Zoran Tegeltija took part via video-link at a Digital Economic Forum in Tirana.

Chairman Tegeltija addressed at the Panel “EU and Western Balkans: Delivery of Long Waited Promise”, along with Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of Norther Macedonia Zoran Zaev and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelji.

Chairman Tegeltija expressed a disappointment of all citizens of BIH in the global vaccine procurement system, which showed an unjustifiably high level of inefficiency, and added that he is confident that the relevant procurement system with the EU will start to function.

“There are huge challenges ahead of us in year 2021. The first is to realise successfully the vaccination in our counties, and the second is to recover, through investments in both private and public sectors, from the economic damage of Covid-19, which is still strongly felt in our economies”, Chairman Tegeltija said.

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers thanked to the Government of Serbia, its  Prime Minister Ana Brnabić and President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, for the support they provided to BIH and some other surrounding countries, when it comes to vaccines procurement.

Chairman Tegeltija said that additional quantities of vaccines granted by the Government of Serbia should arraive to BIH today.

“It is frustrating for us that the vaccines, as the global good, at least as we wanted to observe it, turned into a good traded under extremely unfair market conditions. Maybe to small counties, such as BIH is, it is difficult to understand, but we consider that on that field we should have done much more, Chairman Tegeltija said. He congratulated to Serbia which understood the process better than BIH and secured much higher quantities of vaccines for its citizens.

Chairman Tegletija said he believes that the vaccines procurement through the EU system would start to function and that it would prove successful. He emphasised an important role of the EU in containing the pandemics, as well as its supportive role as to BIH though different mechanisms.

Chairman Tegeltija underlined the importance of investment and realisation of infrastructure projects for the aim of linking BKH with its neighbours.

“For the aim of better mutual connection, BIH will sign, on March 16, an Agreement with Turkey on cooperation in infrastructure and civil construction projects, to enable construction of Sarajevo-Belgrade-Sarajevo motorway. The project should ensure improved connection of economies and citizens”, Chairman Tegeltija said.

“We are ready to do our best for the regional cooperation to be as successful as possible and show that the Western Balkans region belongs to Europe in economic and every other sense”, Chairman Tegeltija concluded.
