BIH and Montenegro Opened Joint Border Crossing
10/20/2020
Chairman Tegeltija said that the opening of this border crossing, the investment of which was more than EUR 2.5 million worth, is one in a series of successfully realised projects of BIH and Montenegro with the EU. He expressed his conviction that this was not the last joint project, and that even bigger, also successfully implemented projects will follow in the years to come.
“I would like to address to border policemen and customs officers of Montenegro and BIH, who have been jointly enabling smooth passage of people and goods in this area, because they are those who enable our economies to cooperate and our citizens to mutually communicate. Your work over the past 20 years has enfolded in adverse conditions, which have not stopped you from successfully performing your duties”, Chairman Tegletija said.
Chairman of the Council of Ministers emphasised that it is a commitment for authorities of both countries to enable better economic cooperation, which necessitates infrastructure and border crossings to enable smooth passage and fast crossing for good willed people and businessmen who want to work successfully, but who will be an obstacle to human trafficking and illegal trade.
He announced the launch of construction of Foča – Šćepan Polje road in 2021, within the EU project, and stated his hope that all border crossings will be modernised and opened by 2024.
The Vrađenovići joint border crossing was constructed in the Montenegrin territory by integration of two border crossings into the single one, where the BIH and Montenegrin border services will work from now on following the “one stop” principle, thus simplifying the border crossing between the two counties.
This contemporary modern border crossing of 9,000 square meters surface, has three enter and exit lanes, including an additional lane for cargo vehicles.
The “Vrađenovići” border crossing construction started by the end of this February, since when it was closed for the reason of communication infrastructure construction.
