Address by Chairman at Mostar Fair
04/05/2022
“Mostar is, again, for the first time after 2019, the host of this very important regional gathering, the 23rd International Economic Fair” When we met at this venue last time, in 2019, nobody could gest that the next gathering would take place only three years after. In the period of time which, hopefully, and as I got understanding here, is behind us, we’ve had an experience without precedent. We experienced and got through together one of the major crisis on the global scale since the WWII, the crisis that contained and paralysed the world, locked us in our homes, leaving us in an uncertainty as to its epilogue”, Tegeltija reminded.
Chairman Tegletija underlined that the Corona virus-caused crisis produced considerable challenges and pressures, primarily to counties’ heal systems, and it has thoroughly affected economy and economic activities, particularly as years 2020 and 2021 were in many countries projected, on real grounds, as years of extraordinary growth and development.
“The crisis showed us that in situations such as this was and in difficult times of great uncertainty we have been finally left to ourselves and our resources and capacities, and support from our closest counties, primarily those of the region. Admitting however, that we witnessed moments when, although disposing of resources required, we have not been able to purchase or otherwise provide medicine supplies and other goods needed for containing pandemics, due to break in supply chains”, Tegeltija said, adding that all-level authorities in BIH implemented certain measures in a coordinated fashion, in cooperation with citizens, who showed their solidarity and responsibility, preserving health systems, jobs and economy.
According to Chairman Tegeltija, the primary aim of all-level authorities in BIH is to strengthen the whole region through cooperation, so as to pose itself as a respectable area, primarily desirable investment destination, and with BIH as relevant and respectful member of the European Union. He stressed that all efforts taken by the authorities are directed to an improvement of economic ambience, boosting of economic cooperation, enabling smoother flow of people, goods, services and capital, strengthening of connectedness and mobility, which all should have a positive effect to a growth of domestic economies and betterment of living standard of people.
Chairman Tegletija sad that after we were through the major challenges, caused by the pandemics and followed by a 3per cent economic slowdown in 2020, now we mark relevant results, proved by data from this January and February, when export was KM 2 billion and 697 million, or 41% higher than in same period of time 2021, while the import was KM 3 billion and 784 million, or 44 per cent more than in the year before.
He stressed that new developments at the international scene threaten again to endanger considerably the economic growth sustainability, through jeopardy of breaking global supply chains, prices soaring or even energy resources and food shortage, which after one crisis passed though, would be a strong blow to economies of the region and Europe.
Therefore, the primary aim is to intensify the regional cooperation as a vehicle of strengthening of the whole region, in which we enjoy the support of Serbia, participating in all regional initiatives, and Croatia, as the EU member-country and relevant advocate for the EU accession by the Western Balkans countries, in addition to Hungary, which is also “our voice in EU and this year’s partner-country of the Fair, the Chairman said.
Chairman Tegeltija thanked, on behalf of the Council of Ministers of BIH, for an invitation to the Fair to the organisers thereof and to Hungary as the partner-country of the extremly relevant event, and wished to entrepreneurs and visitors successful and yielding meetings at the Mostar Fair. (end)
