4th EU-BIH Meeting of Stabilisation and Accession Council in Held Brussels (VIDEO)

On the eve of the Council meeting, members of BIH delegation, led by Chairman Tegeltija, talked with EU High representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borell. The BIH dlegation was comprised of Deputy Chairman and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bisera Turković and Minister of Justice Josip Grubeša.
Chairman Tegeltija state that BIH has implemented as many measures as it has been possible so, as to be eligible as successful in the European integrations process, and that it is possible to award the candidate status to BIH, as an affirmative EU message to citizens of the country.
He stressed that BIH is ready o adopt a new election lase to enable all citizens in the country to vote and be elected. “It will require more time, but I am sure that the general election in 2022 would be fair, free and democratic”, Chairman Tegeltija said.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina is definitely committed to a notion to become a member of the EU, same as the EU should be committed to accepting it”. I consider that a lot if work was done n the course of year 2020, and that we are ready for making sufficient number of credible measures in 2021 so that BIH would get the candidate status. We used a chance to thank once again to the EU for support to BIH and all other Western Balkan countries in the course of pandemics through tis macro-financial assistance”, the Chairman of the Council of Ministers said.
He assessed the implementation of 14 priorities form the European Commission Opinion is far more complex in BIH then in other countries getting the candidate status.
“By the end of 2021, BIH may fulfil a significant number of measures in order to get the candidate status. Not a single country has fulfilled absolutely all the measures set in the accession process”, Chairman Tegeltija noted.
He reminded that today’s meeting discussed migrations, and expressed his position that BIH holds too heavy burden, given the size of the country and number of migrants.
The Chairman of the Council of Ministers stressed that BIH wants to continue regional cooperation with the Western Balkan countries.
“It is not an alternative of the EU membership, but rather it is a way to enter the EU better prepared, Tegletija said, noting that the economic cooperation and links with the countries of the region would assist overcome differences and conflicts-ridden past.
“We seek your support in combating Covid19 pandemics, as well as a full implementation of economic-investment plans for the Western Balkans. It is the best plan the region have got from the EU, Chairman Tegeltija stressed.
