Council of Ministers of BIH Holds Its 10th Extraordinary, Phone, Session
08/24/2023
The Council of Ministers of BIH adopted unanimously a Proposal Law on Vine Market Organisation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a new text and with “EI” mark, as a confirmation of certain adjustment with the EU acquis and relevant international standards, and will send it to the Parliamantarian Assembly immediately for consideration in an urgent procedure.
The new text Law is a result of agreement after yesterday’s session of the Council of Ministers of BIH, when certain technical objections were raised, and today agreed, as to shortening of deadline from 18 to 12 months for taking relevant regulations and more precise defining of taking effect and application of this piece of legislation.
It is especially important for domestic producers to be left sufficient time for unhindered foreign trade at European and global markets after November 2024, the date set by the European Commission as the ultimate deadline for harmonisation of the BIH Law relating to vine and viniculture with the EU standards.
Having regard of the importance the sector has in agriculture and rural development, the Council of Ministers of BIH wants to secure, by adoption of the law, a better competitiveness and access of BIH producers to the European and global markets, accompanied with better conditions for production, harmonised with European standards.
The Proposal Law defines principles of organisation of vine market in BIH and provides precise provisions as to grape and vine production.
An important part of the Law pertains to a systematic arrangement of the area as to marks of origin and geographic origin, and marking, presentation and advertising of vine products, as well as products marketing, surveillance and control, including provisions on organic vines, aromatised vine products and fruit vines.
The new Law enables organisation of vineyard-vine register, as a basis for revival and further development of the sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Solutions proposed under the Law will have multiple positive effects to grape and vine producers with a full registration for their activity, as well as consumers who will benefit a comprehensive review of quality of domestic vines, especially compared to imported vines and grapes from other countries.
